Tips for Displaying Coins in a Display Cabinet

Eugene, Oregon’s best display cabinet maker is back with a new blog! This month we’re talking all about coins. From military coins to vintage coins, we’ve got the know-how on how to display them. Here are some display case tips that will help you preserve and enjoy your collection for a lifetime!

Tools to Use

Your #1 tool for your coin collection is going to be a magnifying glass. That way you don’t miss all of the small details. Next, you’ll want a plush towel to use to handle the coins and to set them on when viewing. It’s also nice to have a lamp handy to better view them. Lastly, a coin term glossary reference is helpful when describing your collection.

Handling Care

Always wash your hands before handling your coins. This will help keep oil and dirt from making marks or staining your coins. Some coin professionals wear gloves when handling their collection. If you have old or fragile coins, hold them over a soft towel or surface in case you drop them. We recommend not cleaning coins too much as it can reduce their value. For more details on how to clean you collection, follow this link.

What Display Case to Use

The glass display case you use to store your coins will depend a lot on your collection. How large is it? Do you want a felt back or mirror back? What kind of wood would best compliment it? At Fine Wood Displays we have dozens of varieties of display cabinets to choose from. For more prized collections, add a lock onto the display cabinet for just $5 extra.  If you can’t find something you like in our gallery, fill out a custom order form! Storing Coins

Once you choose a display cabinet to store your collection in, there are a couple measures you can take to help preserve them. First, you can place silica gel packages inside the display case to help absorb moisture. Avoid using tape to keep coins in place. At Fine Wood Displays of Eugene, Oregon, we make display cabinets with grooved shelves so you don’t have to worry about coins moving.
